Setup of your wristwatch
On this page, we provide step-by-step instructions on how to get your fantastic wooden wristwatch up and running. We also share tips on how to keep your watch in good condition and make it last for a long time. With these guidelines, you'll soon have your watch on your wrist.
Setting Up Your Watch and Adjusting the Strap Length
When you open the wooden watch box, you'll find a stylish wooden HAVU wristwatch inside. First, we recommend taking the watch out of the box and setting the correct time. This can be done by turning the crown while it's pulled out. For detailed instructions specific to each watch, refer to the user manual provided with the watch.
If your new HAVU watch has a wooden strap, you'll receive a strap adjustment tool with your watch box, which you can use to adjust the strap to fit your wrist. We've also mentioned this on each watch's product page. Adjusting the strap to fit using the strap adjustment tool will only take a few minutes with simple home tools.
We've created a guide video for shortening the strap, which will help you easily adjust the strap length. You can find the strap adjustment tutorial video from this link
Differences Between Setting Up Automatic and Quartz Movement Watches
Setting Up a Quartz Movement Watch Powered by a Battery
The setup process for quartz watches is as follows: Remove the plastic cover from the time-setting knob and adjust the time. Press the knob all the way in, and the watch will start running. The batteries are already installed in the watches. Easy, isn't it?
Setting Up an Automatic Movement Watch
The brilliance and uniqueness of an automatic movement lie in how the watch's operation is based on kinetic energy. An automatic watch can be wound by turning the crown in its normal position clockwise. Turn the crown several times, and the watch will start running normally. Energy is stored in the watch when it's in regular use. When the watch is not worn for a while, the automatic movement watch needs to be wound again and the time reset.
All our watches come with illustrated user manuals in Finnish, Swedish, and English to ensure you can easily set up your watch. The user manual provides detailed instructions to make setting up your wristwatch as effortless as possible.
Storing Your Wristwatch – Keeping Your Accessory Safe
You'll receive your HAVU watch in a beautiful wooden watch box, where you can store it when not wearing it. A quartz movement watch won't stop until the battery in the movement runs out. However, you can pull the knob up if you wish during storage to stop the movement and save battery.
An automatic wristwatch stops running when the power reserve is depleted. If you want, you can purchase a watch winder, a favorite among watch enthusiasts, which keeps the movement running even when you're not wearing the watch. This way, you avoid having to wind the watch when you start wearing it again after a few days' break.
We recommend storing your wristwatch in a dry and cool place, away from direct sunlight. This prevents the wooden parts from getting wet and protects the watch's color from fading due to sunlight. While the wooden parts are treated with wood oil, the natural effects of wood cannot be completely prevented. This is what makes wood a unique and individual material.
Changing the Battery and Watch Maintenance
Changing the battery can be done by your local watchmaker in a few minutes and is usually a very affordable procedure. Watches powered by quartz movements are virtually maintenance-free, except for battery replacement.
An automatic movement, when properly maintained, can last for decades. Maintenance for an automatic movement is recommended every 4-5 years by a competent watchmaker.
Automatic movements commonly feature a glass case back, allowing you to see the movement. We've innovated our wooden automatic watches so that you can admire the movement without taking the watch off your wrist. Ingenious, isn't it?
